Boston International School has 3 strategies to involve parents in children's education
1. Positive study environment :
Boston International School helps parents find balance that works for their child. We provide information and ideas about how to best assist with homework and other curriculum. We set up a clear homework policies.
At Boston International School, teachers communicate daily with parents about all their children's activities in school. In each class at BIS, we have video recorder cameras. Teachers can provide videos for their kids. At BIS, parents are involved in school decisions. Teacher and parent must know each other very well. At BIS, we celebrate "Mother,s Day "and "Father's Day" every year because it is an opportunity to celebrate matriarchs and patriarchs and how they can make a difference in their child's progress.
Boston International School engages volunteering. Parents who like to volunteer in any school activities are welcome. We invite parents to talk about their careers and skills. We include parents in decision making. We organize parents-teacher workshops where they can discuss homework, tests and study skills.
The purpose of the Parent Committee is to serve the school's mission, programs, and activities. There are no costs to become a member. The Parent Committee general meetings are held twice per term. At the beginning of the term and at the end of the term.
The BIS approach to education is based on universal principles of human development. They are essential to the work of Montessori teachers, and they are essential to parenting practices too. Building home environments that harmonize with your child’s BIS class will support their education and development. Your task will be to study and understand, to observe your child at home and at school, to deepen your awareness of Montessori tenets, and to collaborate with your child’s teacher in his or her education.
Specific opportunities may include the following:
§ Parent lectures
§ Parent-teacher conferences
§ Open houses
§ Classroom observations
§ Teacher guided discussion groups
The family has an amazing power. This is why parents and teachers need to study and reflect, to understand the role of each other, and to help one another to guide the child.
